Getting there
Tangier to Tetouan: Bus, Grand Taxi or a Private Day Trip
Tetouan is about 60 km from Tangier, roughly an hour by road. Buses, CTM among them, run between the two bus stations, and shared grand taxis leave Tangier when they are full. There is no train: Tetouan has no railway station.
A private day trip takes the planning away. Your driver collects you in Tangier, a licensed guide shows you the medina and the Ensanche, and you are back the same evening, 7 to 8 hours door to door.
Tetouan, the White Dove
Tetouan sits at the foot of the Rif Mountains. Its medina, rebuilt by Andalusian refugees from Granada at the end of the 15th century, has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1997, and its white houses gave the city its nickname, the White Dove.
From 1913 to 1956 Tetouan was the capital of the Spanish protectorate, which built the Ensanche beside the old town. Prefer a different route? See our other private tours from Tangier.
