The green side of Morocco
Waterfalls and fir forests an hour from the blue city
The Rif Mountains behind Chefchaouen are the green side of Morocco: limestone gorges, rivers you can swim in and forests of cedar and Moroccan fir. Talassemtane National Park protects the best of it, and this tour spends two full days walking there.
You stay three nights in a riad in Chefchaouen, so there is no packing and unpacking. Day two follows the river at Akchour to its waterfalls and the natural arch of God's Bridge. Day three climbs into the fir forest in the higher part of the park with a local mountain guide.
It suits walkers with average fitness who want Morocco on foot, with the comfort of a riad every night and the blue city on their doorstep.

Akchour waterfalls: questions about this tour
What travellers ask before they book.
How fit do we need to be?
Average fitness is enough. Each hiking day is four to five hours on foot with some climbing on rocky paths, and the pace is yours.
Can we swim at Akchour?
Yes, many people swim in the river pools in summer. The water is cold all year.
What should we bring?
Walking shoes with grip, a day pack, water, sun protection and a warm layer. In spring and autumn, a light rain jacket.
How do you get to the Akchour waterfalls?
Akchour is in Talassemtane National Park, about an hour's drive from Chefchaouen. From there one path follows the river past green pools to the big waterfall, about two hours each way on a rocky trail, and another leads in about an hour to God's Bridge, a natural rock arch. On this tour your driver takes you from your riad in Chefchaouen on day two.
How much does it cost?
The price depends on your dates, your group size and the hotel level you choose, so we quote it for you, usually within 12 hours. The per-person price falls as the group grows.
Is a deposit required?
Yes, 40% of the trip price. Once we have agreed every detail, we send you an invoice and you pay the deposit by bank transfer or PayPal. It is refunded in full if you cancel up to 48 hours before departure. The balance is paid on the first day of your tour.
