Fes in three days
The imperial city, without the long road south
Fes is the oldest of Morocco's imperial cities and its medina, Fes el-Bali, is one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world. It deserves a full day on foot, and this tour gives it one, with two nights in a riad so you are not rushing.
On the way down from Tangier you stop at Volubilis, a Roman town on the UNESCO list with mosaics still in place, and at Moulay Idriss, the white hill town beside it. On day three you drive back to Tangier, or we leave you at Fes station or airport if you are travelling on.
No desert and no long drives through the mountains: it suits travellers with three days who want history and one great city, seen properly.

Tangier to Fes via Volubilis
Roman Volubilis and the hill town of Moulay Idriss

Pickup in Tangier and south on the motorway, then inland to Volubilis, a Roman town on the UNESCO list, with its mosaics, basilica and triumphal arch. A short stop at Moulay Idriss, the white town on the hill beside it, then on to Fes for the evening.

A day in the Fes medina with a local guide

A licensed local guide leads you into Fes el-Bali through the blue gate of Bab Boujloud: the Bou Inania madrasa, the Al Quaraouiyine mosque and its university, the terraces above the Chouara tannery and the workshops of the metal, weaving and pottery quarters. The afternoon is free for shopping or a hammam.

Fes to Tangier
The Royal Palace gates, then back north

Before leaving, the golden doors of the Royal Palace and the Mellah, the old Jewish quarter, then the drive back to Tangier. If you are travelling on, we leave you at Fes station or the airport instead.
