South to north
Fly into Marrakech, leave by ferry from Tangier
Many travellers arrive in Marrakech and go on to Spain. This tour links the two: six days north through the High Atlas, the desert, Fes and the Rif, ending in Tangier, an hour by ferry from Tarifa.
Your guide and driver meet you in Marrakech. The first day crosses the Tizi n'Tichka pass to Ait Ben Haddou and the Dades valley, and the second reaches the dunes of Erg Chebbi for a night at camp. The long day comes early, from the desert to Fes, and after that the drives get shorter each day.
Fes gets two nights and a day with a local guide, and the last night is in Chefchaouen, so you arrive in Tangier rested and in time for an afternoon ferry.

Marrakech to the Dades valley
Over the High Atlas to the valley of kasbahs

Pickup at your Marrakech riad or the airport. Up and over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, then Ait Ben Haddou, the earthen village on the UNESCO list, and Ouarzazate, and along the valley to the Dades Gorge for the night.

Dades to Merzouga
The Todra Gorge and into the dunes

A morning walk in the Todra Gorge between its canyon walls, then east past Tinghir and Rissani to Merzouga. Camels carry you into the dunes of Erg Chebbi for sunset and a night at the camp.

Merzouga to Fes
The Ziz valley and the Middle Atlas

Sunrise over the dunes, then north up the palm groves of the Ziz valley and over the Middle Atlas past Midelt and the cedar forests of Azrou and Ifrane, where Barbary macaques live, to Fes by evening.

A day in Fes with a local guide

Where do you meet us in Marrakech?
At your riad or hotel, or at Marrakech Menara airport. Your guide and driver come down from Tangier to start the trip with you.
Can we catch a ferry to Spain on the last day?
Yes. We arrive in Tangier around midday and drop you at the Tanger Ville port for the ferry to Tarifa, about an hour across.
Is this the same as the 6-day grand tour?

How do you get from Marrakech to Tangier?
The fastest way is the train: a train from Marrakech to Casablanca, then the Al Boraq high-speed line to Tangier, roughly five to six hours in all. There are also flights and long-distance buses. This private tour takes six days instead, with your own guide, driver and vehicle, through the Sahara, Fes and Chefchaouen.
How much does it cost?
The price depends on your dates, your group size and the hotel level you choose, so we quote it for you, usually within 12 hours. The per-person price falls as the group grows.
Is a deposit required?
Yes, 40% of the trip price. Once we have agreed every detail, we send you an invoice and you pay the deposit by bank transfer or PayPal. It is refunded in full if you cancel up to 48 hours before departure. The balance is paid on the first day of your tour.
