Chefchaouen was founded in 1471 in the Rif Mountains of northern Morocco and is known as the Blue Pearl, or simply the blue city, for its blue-washed houses and narrow streets. The day covers the Outa El Hammam square and the Kasbah, the blue alleys and their photo spots, craft shops if you want them, and a view over the town before the drive back to Tangier in the middle of the afternoon.

You choose the start time; most guests leave Tangier around 9 am and are back around 5:30 to 6 pm. We pick you up at your hotel, the port, the airport or the train station, and the tour runs in English, French, Spanish or Arabic.

  5. Walk through the blue-washed alleys

  6. Shop local crafts (optional)

    Wool blankets, weaving and leather from local workshops, only if you want to shop.

  7. Key photo spots in the medina

    Time for photos in the lanes and doorways the town is known for.

  8. Stop for a traditional Moroccan lunch

How long is the drive from Tangier to Chefchaouen?

About 2 to 2.5 hours each way, through the Rif Mountains. With time in Chefchaouen and lunch, the whole day trip takes 8 to 9 hours, door to door. A faster day focused on the highlights is possible: tell us when you need to be back.

Is a day trip to Chefchaouen from Tangier worth it?

Yes, if you have one free day. You see the blue medina, the Kasbah square and the view over the town, with lunch, and you are back in Tangier the same evening. To see the town early in the morning or at night, the 2-day Chefchaouen overnight tour gives you that.

Can we go to Chefchaouen by bus or taxi instead?

Yes. CTM buses and shared grand taxis run between Tangier and Chefchaouen. A private day trip saves the timetables and the changes: your driver takes you door to door at the time you choose, and a licensed guide shows you the medina.
